Janice Denigan is St. Louis Charter School's Head of Finance and Operations, whose position manages the financial resources of the school and all operational support areas. Ms. Denigan has been in school management since 1993 and joined the SLCS Team in 2009. She is married and she and her husband Joe have two daughters.

Welcome to the Middle School

The mission of the SLCS middle school is to ensure that all students who graduate have the academic and social skills necessary to pursue any path they desire for high school and beyond. We know that this requires them to be prepared to compete with students from all backgrounds for future opportunities.

Our middle school students take 2 hours daily of language arts and 1 hour each of math, science and social studies. They also choose 6 of 17 elective classes to take for 1 hour daily throughout the school year. We hold Saturday School twice per month to give those students who need extra support and also offer a nightly teacher guided homework helpline.

Each grade level also meets monthly for whole-grade character education activities (called Challenge Days). Throughout the month, students then complete daily challenges related to Challenge Day. We also regularly use class meetings to help our students have a voice in the school. Our Head of Middle School, would be happy to discuss these initiatives or anything else about our middle school programs.

Dr. Schrimpf has been a member of the SLCS team since the school opened in 2000. While working at St. Louis Charter School, he has taught sixth, seventh and eighth grade and has been the Head of Middle School for the last six years. Dr. Schrimpf received his BS in elementary education and a MS in educational administration from Southern Illinois University. He earned his doctorate in educational leadership from St. Louis University. In 2010, Dr. Schrimpf received recognition nationally as an emerging leader in the field of education by Phi Delta Kappa International. He is married and in his spare time, enjoys working out and is a fanatical St. Louis Cardinals fan.

My name is Derek Davenport and I have been at SLCS since 2001. I am originally from Dyersburg, TN and have had the opportunity to play college basketball at Union University and attended Tennessee State University and University of Missouri at St. Louis for my post graduate degrees. During my tenure here, I have had the opportunity to be a school counselor, Head of Middle School and Head of Intermediate Education. Kids, families and relationship building are my passions in life and at St. Louis Charter School.

Welcome to the Elementary School

Kindergarten, First and Second grades are the years that set the tone for your child’s educational experiences. The Primary Team is committed to enhancing the educational foundation of all K-2 students by providing a positive social and academic experience. In doing so, we believe in fostering a valuable relationship with parents, students and the community by establishing a love of learning, utilizing best practices for instruction to ensure student success, and integrating SLCS’ core ethical values of caring, respect and responsibility.

In grades Third through Fifth, we are committed to make sure that all of our students have the opportunity to achieve academically while "Kickin' It with Character" in the process. At SLCS, we want each and every student to be a part of something special within our school community. Our Intermediate Team, grades 3-5, are an amazing group of teachers who are dedicated to making sure your child's individual needs are being met on a daily basis.

Our teachers find many ways to reach the various needs of our students at a developmentally appropriate level such as, project-based learning, cooperative learning and teacher-presented instruction. I look forward to working with you throughout the year!

Welcome to SLCS

At SLCS we are proud to offer a full range of services for our students with special needs. We have teachers, therapists and a school psychologist on staff to aid each student in working toward his or her individual goals. Our special education programming is known as TLC within our school which stands for "The Learning Center."

Rachel Miles has been a part of St. Louis Charter School since 2004 and is a Teach for America alumna. She received her bachelor's degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 2003 and completed her master's degree from Webster University in 2007.
