The SLCS Grading System

The following is the  SLCS grading and promotion system as outlined by the Head of Middle & Elementary School.

Middle School  (Grades 6 - 8)

The middle school promotion system is based on credits.  Each core academic class: reading, writing, math, science and social studies are worth 1 credit per trimester.  Students can earn 3 credits for each core academic class througout the school year for a total of 15 credits.

Elective classes are worth 0.5 credit per trimester.  Students can earn a total of 3 credits from elective classes throughout the school year.

Middle School Advisory is worth 0.5 credit per trimester.  Students can earn a total of 1.5 advisory credits throughout the school year.

In total, 19.5 credits are available to middle school students throughout the school year.  In order to secure promotion at the end of the year, students need to earn 14 of the available 19.5 credits.

Students receive 1 credit by earning a passing score of 70% or higher in a class over a trimester.

Middle school parents and students may also track their academic progress during the year using our new Student Information System, Infinite Campus.  All middle school students and parents are issued an Infinite Campus password so they can view student data.  To log on to the Parent Portal click on the Infinite Campus link on the main Parents page.

Elementary

(Grades 3 - 5)

Students in grades 3rd through 5th use a skills based report card to describe a student's individual level of progress in each subject area.  The grades are determined based upon a student's performance on class assignments, projects, quizzes and tests over the entire trimester.

(Grades K - 2)

Students attending grades Kindergarten through 2nd, utilize a skills based report card to descibe a student's individual level of progess in each subject area.  These areas are assessed based on grade level tests, anecdotal record (written documentation of teacher's observation) and individual assessment.
